"Lar do Caminho" counts with 6 units to support underprivileged children and adolescents.
Juquitiba Unit
Located on an area of 22.400 square meters, next to a beautiful woodland in the city of Juquitiba ,
only 70 km from São Paulo. Its infrastructure includes bedrooms, kitchen, cafeteria, infirmary,
library, rooms for handicraft, sports activities, computer and extra-curricular classes, besides
a garden and a soccer field.
The unit has the capacity to house up to 80 children residents, from the age 2 to13, supported by a
team of educators, teachers, support staff, psychologist and a social worker, in addition to medical,
phonetics and dental care assistance.
During their stay in Juquitiba, it is emphasized the children's academic, physical, motor and
intellectual development, as well as their social interaction by means of affection and friendship.
They attend public schools, and in their spare time participate in various extra-curricular activities
such as tutoring, computer skill courses, arts, reading, and sports.
When a child completes the age of 13, he/she is relocated to one of the other units at Itatiba or
Jundiaí.

"Friendly Spot" Project
Since 1997, by means of the "Friendly Spot" Project "Lar do Caminho" has been providing a
supplementary education program to 25 children from the Juquitiba unit neighboring community.
They come from low income families, with rare cultural opportunities and participate in the
activities along with the resident children.
Housing ("Repúblicas") Project
Itatiba (2 houses) and Jundiaí (1 house) Units
Each house accommodates up to 8 adolescents, from 13 to18 years old, transferred from the
Juquitiba Unit to get a more individualized environment together with better educational,
professional and socialized conditions.
Under the supervision of a resident coordinator, the adolescents attend regular school and
professionalizing courses.
From the age of 16 these students may take remunerated internships while attending evening classes.
When they become 18, with the backing of the institution, the adolescents leave to start an
independent life.
Taubaté Units - (2 houses)
This entity, located in Taubaté at 123 km from SP, provides shelter for 12 adolescents and adults
with serious mental or cognitive disabilities . They receive psychiatric and psychological treatment,
along with educational and professionalizing programs in specialized schools.
Although having quite an independent life and getting around on their own, these residents will
require a permanent support for the rest of their lives.
